Joey is a freelance sportscaster for NCAA’s Division II Long Island University Post Pioneers on Long Island, NY.

Joey joined the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in November, 2018 as the Sports Information Director/Athletic Communications Assistant for their NCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball program, who is led by the legendary head coach Linda Cimino. Before starting in Brooklyn, and Long Island, he was the sports director of the St. John’s University’s student radio station. This led him to call many notable contests for the storied St. John’s Red Storm’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, along with famed collegiate head coach Ed Blankmeyer’s baseball team. Some of those games include:

2/28/16- Nassau Community College men’s basketball wins the 2016 NJCAA DIII Section XV Regional Title vs. Rockland CC

3/10/16- Nassau CC Men’s Basketball wins first round of DIII National Championship vs. Davidson CC in Upstate N.Y.

5/15/16- Suffolk CC wins thriller over Nassau CC for Region XV Championship in Baseball at Farmingdale College

5/26/18- St. John’s Baseball 7-0 shutout vs. Seton Hall in Big East Tournament to clinch 2nd title in three seasons

Joey always had a passion for broadcasting, sports in particular, but did not pursue it, why? No idea. He began his quest for the spotlight in 2011, when an old friend at Cold Spring Harbor High School, Josh Brown asked then-athletic director Jim Amen, if his friend could do the public address announcing for the remainder of the Varsity Basketball’s home games. Not hesitating a bit, Jim was all for it. Joey was a hit, and from there, became the team’s P.A. announcer till he graduated in 2013.

At Nassau Community College, Joey met another now “old friend” in Rodney Harris, where they both decided to restart the broadcasting side of the athletic program in the “P” building. Helping promote both basketball programs, football, and baseball program, their work eventually was noticed, as they met Michael Slavit along the way. Mike joined Joey and Rodney in pursuit of stamping their mark on Long Island community college sports. Joey then graduated with his associates degree in Communications with a concentration in Media, where he then took his talents to St. John’s University. Not too long after enrollment, he walked into the radio station on the Queens campus, and before long, was calling games with an already set resume in that field.

The rest is history.
